In October 2023 the Ukrainian Classical Voice Project joined the State University of New York at Oswego for a week-long residency in collaboration with the Artswego project.
This unique program serves as a bridge between the campus and community, supporting the development of collaborative and interdisciplinary programs to foster patterns of life-long learning and promote cross-cultural understanding.
The UCVP was thrilled to offer a variety of educational and artistic resources to the students, including private diction coachings for all performers involved, IPA transcription work and rarely found music scores of Ukrainian art songs and arias. The residency involved a performance masterclass, a lecture reictal on underrepresented composers of Ukraine and a final collaborative recital at Tyler Hall, featuring 3 faculty members and 13 students, all singing in the original Ukrainian.
The performance showcased rarely heard vocal works by Mykola Lysenko, Vasyl Barvinsky, Stefania Turkewich, Yuliy Meitus, Stanyslav Lyudkevych, Mykhailo Verykivsky, Heorhij Maiboroda, Hryhory Alchevsky, Viktor Kosenko, Borys Lyatoshynsky, Kyrylo Stetsenko and Oleksandr Bilash.
For this particular undertaking, the UCVP was proud to team up with Lida Sukhy, a Yale graduate Ukrainian-American visionary photographer who presented her photo exhibit titled “Portrait of a Village: Ukraine”, in hopes to bring awareness to the current refugee crisis. A lecture recital was offered in the Tyler Gallery for immersive and poignant experience.
Our sincere gratitude goes out to Dr. Amanda Li for her inspiring enthusiasm and tireless efforts in preparing the students, as well as to Prof. Rebecca Horning for providing skillful accompaniment.
