The Ukrainian Classical Voice Project presented Discovering Ukraine Through Song, a week-long artistic and educational residency at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, introducing students and faculty to the richness of Ukrainian classical vocal repertoire through an immersive program of study, coaching, and performance.

Led by UCVP founder Irina Petrik, the residency included group classes and individual coaching in Ukrainian lyric diction, IPA transcription, language-specific aspects of vocal production, dramatic interpretation, and Ukrainian music history. Through this integrated approach, participants explored the relationship between language, vocal technique, cultural context, and dramatic expression while preparing rarely performed Ukrainian art songs and operatic arias.

The residency culminated in a lecture-recital presented during the School of Music convocation, bringing this underrepresented repertoire before the broader student body. Accomplished faculty members Dr. Suna Avci Gunther, Professor Amy Guevara, and Professor Brianna Smith were joined by student performers in presenting vocal works by Dmytro Bortnyansky, Denys Sichynsky, Kyrylo Stetsenko, Stefania Turkewich, Mykola Lysenko, Borys Lyatoshynsky, Anatoly Kos-Anatolsky, and Vitaliy Kyreiko. Dr. Denis Plutalov provided collaborative piano accompaniment.

The residency reflected the remarkable commitment of UNL faculty and students to engaging with Ukrainian music at a time of war and bringing historically underrepresented repertoire into contemporary study and performance. Through their preparation and performances, participants gave renewed voice to Ukrainian works across generations, affirming the capacity of music education and artistic collaboration to foster cultural understanding, solidarity, and a shared commitment to peace and freedom.
